A family command center is the one spot where a household keeps its plan: the calendar, the shopping list, who’s doing what this week. Family Command Central (Fam Central) is a family organizer app that does the same job on every phone in the family, and on a kitchen tablet or the TV if you’d like the plan on the wall.

What goes in one

Most are a patch of wall near the kitchen or the front door. It works because everyone knows where to look. The usual pieces:

  • A month calendar for school, practices, appointments and birthdays.
  • A running shopping list.
  • A job chart: who takes the bins out, who feeds the cat.
  • A tray for school letters, receipts and warranties.
  • The addresses you need: the school, the doctor, the usual shop.

Where the wall falls short

A wall only helps the people standing in front of it.

  • You can’t check it from the supermarket or the office.
  • One person ends up keeping it up to date.
  • It never reminds anyone: the dentist at 4:15 is only on the wall.
  • Plans made in the group chat don’t make it onto the board.

The same jobs, on every phone

Fam Central keeps each piece of the wall, shared with everyone in the family and up to date the moment someone changes it.

On the wallIn Fam Central
Month calendarA shared calendar. Each event can remind the people going, or the whole family.
Whiteboard listNamed shopping lists anyone can add to and tick off, with an optional store for each item.
Job chartTasks with a name on them, so everyone can see who’s on it.
Paperwork trayThe Vault: parents-only storage for receipts, warranties and school letters (Plus and Pro).
Addresses on the fridgeSaved places: the school, the clinic, the usual shop.
“Did you see my message?”A family chat where a message becomes a task, an event or a shopping item.

Big plans get their own space. A Family Project gathers a trip’s or a party’s tasks, shopping, dates and chat, and a secret one stays hidden from whoever the surprise is for.

A screen on the wall

If you like a plan you can see from across the room, a spare tablet or the TV can be a Family Screen (Pro plan, from version 2.2). It shows what’s next, today and the week, open jobs and the shopping lists, big enough to read from the sofa. It has no sign-in of its own and never shows chats, the Vault or surprise projects. It works on an iPad or Android tablet, Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV.

Set yours up tonight

  1. One parent installs Family Command Central and creates the family. Sign-in is with Google or Apple, so there’s no password.
  2. Invite everyone with the family’s code or QR. Add young children as profiles: they don’t need an account.
  3. Put in the next two weeks: school runs, practices, appointments, birthdays.
  4. Start a shopping list, and save the places you go most.
  5. If you’d like one, put a tablet or the TV on the wall as a Family Screen.

Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and one subscription covers the whole family. See plans and prices.
