A Family Screen puts your family’s day where everyone walks past it: the living-room TV or a tablet in the kitchen. Family Command Central (Fam Central) keeps it up to date from everyone’s phones, so nobody has to stand in front of a wall calendar to know what’s on.
What it is
A screen is a companion, not another account. It has no sign-in and no password: a parent pairs it from their own phone, and from then on it shows the family’s day, big enough to read from the sofa. It updates live, so a change on a phone appears on the screen within seconds.
What it shows, and what it never does
- What’s coming up next, the rest of today and the week ahead, in each person’s colour.
- Open jobs, with who’s doing them, and each child’s own day.
- The family’s shopping lists.
- Night mode: the screen dims and shows tomorrow.
- If a parent allows it, children can tick off their own jobs. Nothing else can be changed from a screen.
A screen never shows chats, the Vault, event notes, addresses or surprise projects. It is only sent what a family would put on a fridge door, so what it isn’t shown can’t leak.
Which screens work
| Screen | How you use it |
|---|---|
| Apple TV | Install Family Command Central from the App Store on the TV and open it. The remote moves between Today, Week and Lists, and between people. |
| Android TV and Google TV | Coming with our next Google Play update. Then install it from Google Play on the TV and open it. The D-pad moves around; Back steps out of a view. |
| iPad and Android tablets | On the tablet’s sign-in page, tap Use as a Family Screen. It follows light and dark and dims at night. Android tablets need our next Google Play update. |
Fire TV isn’t supported yet.
Pair one in a minute
- Open Family Command Central on the screen. It shows a six-letter code and a QR code.
- On a parent’s iPhone (an Android phone with our next Google Play update), open Family, then Family Screens, then Add a screen. Type the code, or point the phone’s camera at the QR code, and give the screen a name like “Kitchen iPad”.
- Choose whether the kids can tick their jobs, and tap Add screen. Your family’s day appears within seconds.
Only add a screen that’s in front of you. Every other parent gets a notification when a screen is added, and any parent can remove one from Family, Family Screens at any time. More in the Help Center.
Plan and limits
Family Screens come with the Pro plan, up to 5 screens per family, and one subscription covers the whole family. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and a Pro trial includes screens. If the plan ends, the screens stay paired and say they need Pro; your family’s day comes back the moment the plan does. See plans and prices.
